• Introduction to the course

We would like to welcome you to the course MATHEMATICAL METHODS OF BIOENGINEERING, part of the Biomedical Engineering degree program, published as an open educational resource (REA).

This course provides students with the mathematical foundations required to model, analyze, and solve problems arising in biological and biomedical systems. It begins with an introduction to multivariable functions and the associated vector spaces, followed by topics in partial differentiation and multiple integration. The course then presents an introduction to differential geometry and vector calculus, concluding with the Fundamental Theorems of Vector Calculus. Throughout, particular emphasis is placed on practical applications in bioengineering.

As its name suggests, this course provides the fundamental tools required to understand the mathematical models encountered in subsequent courses of the program.

Finally, in the “Consolidated Materials” section, you will find the collection of open educational resources. In the “Syllabus” section, a detailed outline is provided, including the organizational guidelines for the effective use of these resources.

      Wish you the best,

      Javier Quintero
